Bradley County Schools and ATS – The Bridge are partnering to host a community event called “Escape the Vape.” The event aims to inform parents and students in Bradley County about the dangers and risks of vaping and the growing epidemic in our community. The event will be held at Bradley Central Fine Arts Center on January 12th, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with coffee being served.

The purpose of Escape the Vape is to educate parents and students on the growing vaping epidemic and how it is affecting our community, specifically our schools. The vaping epidemic has reached our community and is enticing kids to be exposed to nicotine, THC and other harmful chemicals, like aerosol. More than one in four high school students have used a vape or e-cigarette in the last 30 days.

During the Bradley County School Board meeting on Thursday, several items were discussed. Updates were given on the progress of the Lake Forest Middle School gym upgrades, hoping for a May completion. Also discussed were plans for updates to be made to the cafeteria. Budgeting will be available next month for both Lake Forest projects as well as projects at North Lee and Black Fox Elementary.

During the meeting, the Bradley County Public Education Foundation made a presentation about their work in 2019 and upcoming plans for 2020. In 2019, $70,000 was allocated for grants. There are now $220,000 worth of grants awaiting funding and estimate a 521% return on investment on the counties contribution to the Foundation of $50,000.
