The Bradley County Commission met on Monday and handled several items of business. Motions to approve the Mayor’s budget amendment as well as the Road Department budget amendment both passed 13-0 with 1 absent. Also, a resolution passed authorizing the Bradley County Mayor to execute an interlocal agreement with the City of Cleveland regarding debris removal and management services. In addition, a resolution authorizing the Mayor to negotiate and enter into an agreement with Berrywood Landscaping LLC to provide demolition services for three buildings located at Lake Forest Middle School for an amount of $45,000 was passed.

Life Care Center of Athens is reporting that a total of 72 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, while 27 residents have tested negative. Currently, one resident is hospitalized and is being checked on frequently by Life Care staff. To date, 12 residents have died as a result of COVID-19. Also, 49 associates have tested positive for COVID-19, of which 29 have recovered and met CDC guidelines for returning to work. Eighty-four associates have tested negative.

Lee University president Dr. Paul Conn issued a statement today emphasizing the school’s commitment to a full schedule of in-person classes and activities in the fall semester, beginning August 19.
The announcement followed Conn’s meetings with the Lee Board of Directors last Thursday and a general meeting of the faculty and staff via Zoom technology.
Conn announced the appointment of a new Task Force to develop detailed plans for Lee’s re-opening in August. The task force is being chaired by Dr. Debbie Murray, provost and vice president for academics, and includes fifteen senior administrators. Summer school sessions are currently being taught through an online platform.
The task force is currently planning a multi-phase opening of campus, culminating in a return to full, in-person classes for the fall semester.
